Account settings

Everyone on a Frameleaf server manages their own account: profile, password, Locked PIN, the features they want to see, downloads, devices and API keys. None of this changes anyone else’s account.

To open your settings, select your avatar in the top-right corner and choose Account Settings, or open Settings from the sidebar. Settings opens on Your preferences. A search box at the top finds any setting by name.

Area What’s in it
Your preferences App settings, your profile, Frameleaf account, downloads, features and account usage
Access & security Password, Locked folder PIN, sign-in provider, Locked tags & people, signed-in devices and API keys
Notifications Your email notifications
People & sharing Partners & recipient groups. See Sharing
Import & protection Google Photos & server imports, and Originals & preservation. See Preservation packages
Library care Your repair queues. See Library Care
Utilities Duplicate review, Large files, Location editor, Live Photo pairing, iCloud Photos, Workflows and Mobile applications
Trash Your deleted items. See Trash and large files
Change history Every preference you’ve saved, with when and the values

App settings belong to the browser or device you’re using, so each device can be set up differently.

Setting What it does
Theme selection Follow your device’s light or dark setting, or choose one
Language The language of the web app
Custom locale Format dates, times and numbers for a language and region, or Use browser locale
Display original photos Show the original in the viewer instead of a preview when the original is web-compatible. Can be slower
Play original video Play the original instead of the streaming version. Videos in an incompatible format may not play
Auto play videos Start videos as soon as you open them
Loop videos Play videos on repeat
Play video thumbnail on hover Play a video’s thumbnail when the pointer is over it. You can still start it by hovering over the play icon
Permanent deletion warning Ask before anything is permanently deleted
  • Upload or remove a profile photo, and choose the avatar colour shown when there’s no photo. If the server can’t use a photo, your current avatar stays.
  • Change your display name and email.

A Locked photo is never used as a profile picture.

Link your own Frameleaf account so you can sign in when you’re away from home. This only appears when your administrator has linked the server to Frameleaf Cloud. You can unlink it again, and you can always keep signing in with your local account.

Setting What it does Default
Maximum download archive size (GiB) Bigger downloads are split into zip archives of this size 4
Include embedded motion-photo video Adds the video part of Android motion photos to downloads Off

See Uploads and downloads.

Turn library features on or off for your account, and choose which ones appear in the sidebar. These only change what you see. They never restrict access to your data, and turning off a feature such as shared links leaves existing links working.

Feature What it does Default
Enable folders Browse your originals by folder. See Folders On, in the sidebar
Show memories Show memories in your library On, in the sidebar
Memory display duration (seconds) How long each photo shows in a memory 5
Enable People Browse recognised people On, in the sidebar
Minimum faces to display a person Hide small unnamed groups from People 3
Enable shared links Create links for people without an account On, in the sidebar
Enable star ratings Rate photos from the library and viewer Off
Enable tags Organise photos with tags On, in the sidebar
Show Recently added in the sidebar Keep recent imports easy to reach On
Enable Chromecast Cast to a TV. See Casting to a TV Off
Default album viewing order Newest or oldest first Newest first

Your administrator can also hide a feature or turn off Chromecast for your account. If Chromecast has been turned off for you, the setting says Turned off by your administrator.

See how many photos and videos you have and how much space they use.

Enter your current password, then the new one twice. Sign out my other devices is on by default; the device you’re using stays signed in.

If you’ve forgotten your password, ask your administrator to reset it.

Create, change or clear the six-digit PIN that protects your Locked photos and videos. You need it to unlock your session.

If you’ve forgotten it, choose Forgot your PIN? and enter your account password to clear it. Your locked photos stay locked. If password sign-in is turned off on your server, ask your administrator to clear your PIN.

When your server uses a sign-in provider, such as your own identity service, you can connect your account to it or disconnect it here, and open the provider’s account page if your administrator set one up.

Choose which tags, people and pets stay Locked, and whether the rules cover My photos and videos or All photos and videos I can access. The rules are hidden until you unlock with your PIN, and can only be changed while you’re unlocked. See Locked rules.

See everywhere your account is signed in. Sign out one device, or every device except the one you’re using.

API keys let other apps and scripts, such as the command-line tool, use your account.

  • Create a key with only the permissions an app needs, or with full access.
  • Edit a key’s name and permissions.
  • Rotate a key to get a new value. The old value stops working straight away.
  • Delete a key you no longer use.

A new or rotated key is shown only once, so copy it somewhere safe.

Setting What it does Default
Receive email notifications All email from your server. Turning it off also turns off the two below On
Album invitations Email when someone adds you to a shared album On
Album updates Email when photos or videos are added to a shared album you’re in On

Email only works once your administrator has set up the server’s mail settings. See Notifications.

Change as many settings as you like, then save. If your settings were changed in another tab or on another device since you opened them, Frameleaf keeps your changes on screen and asks you to load the latest values before saving, so nothing is silently overwritten.

Change history lists every preference you’ve saved, with when it was saved and the old and new values.
